1. This is where the balsa board starts off.
2 & 3. The balsa is milled to convenient sizes to make into blanks.
4. Planked timber awaiting selection. Some of it will be used for making blanks, the rest will be used for making stringers, nose and tail blocks
5. Balsa blanks ready for the shaping process.
6. The blank is shaped on the CNC shaping machine then cut down the middle ready for chambering - sometimes it is cut into three depending on the stringer configuration.
7. Chambering the blank. Chambering is the process of taking cores of balsa from the middle of the blank to make it lighter - about a quarter of the weight is removed in the chambering process.
8. At this point Mark Hills of Hilzeez Surfboards takes over and finishes the board beautifully.
